Winter Wonderland

This is the juried painting named Snowy Morning Walk painted on UArt paper using Terry Ludwig pastels. It's a small 8x8 and is from a photo taken on an early Morning Walk. This painting evokes the cozy feeling one gets when walking on a snowy lane in upstate NY. I loved painting this as the colors and touch were subtle and I had to be careful not to overdo. It all paid off as this was accepted in a national juried show. This painting is not for sale but I have some wonderful snow scenes to buy reasonably unframed. Send me an email if you are interested in purchase. You can buy a work of art for less than $100 based on size and shipping. Have a wonderful Holiday Season and thanks for visiting my blog. Scroll thru the blog there are some great recipes too!

What's On The Easel ?

I'm finished with The Runner and though I'm not entirely happy with the arms, I may try to rework but the arms have really puzzled me because of the foreshortening effect of the photo. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know!

What's on the Easel?

I think I'm finished with my Runner painting but I'm still concerned about here arms. The idea of foreshortened comes in to play here So who knows I may still have to rework her.

31 in 31 on Facebook With Gail Sibley

I am still working on The Runner and it will take a while to get her to look like my granddaughter but I'll keep sculpting till I get it right. I recently joined a Facebook group that attempted to post 31 paintings in 31 Days! Impossible for me ...so I cheated a little and posted many of my finished paintings. I did start and finish one and have a few on the Easel including this one. It was a fun group hosted by a famous artist Gail Sibley, she also has a blog named How to Pastel check it out. So it's back to the Easel for me today and work on my runner.

What's On The Easel?

Wiawaka is a holiday house for women. It has lake front property on Lake GeorgeNew York. It is one of the few remaining fully operational vacation/retreat centers which arose out of the women’s rights movement in the early part of the twentieth century. Founded in 1903 by Mary Wiltsie Fuller, Wiawaka provided “affordable vacations” for mainly immigrant female textile workers from Troy and Cohoes, New York, who lacked the economic means to find respite anywhere else.
This painting may be part of a series of paintings from that lake front property on Lake George where Georgia O'Keefe once painted. The painting is of the boathouse taken from a boat trip past the property.

It Snowed!

I have been fussing over this painting for a while...just didn't like it and never felt it was finished so I decided ...What if it snowed? So I grabbed my favorite snow color pastels and changed this fall farm scene to an early snow scene...what do you think?

Waterlouge. AP Great for looking at a photo for a preliminary painting

I am planning a painting of my granddaughter running ..I downloaded her photo to Waterlogue AP
This is a great free AP for looking at shapes and values because the photo becomes less defined allowing the artist to see this before planning the actual painting composition. It simplifys the photo.
Below is the photo in Waterlogue and the shapes can be seen more easily than in the original photo.

Creation of a Pastel Painting

T
This digitally framed pastel of Lime Kiln Lighthouse is a 9x 12 on Uart done as prep for a large acrylic
canvas painting commission. The pastel is my "thumbnail" for the larger painting.
I wanted to work out color and composition for this and this little pastel helped me with my plan for the larger acrylic painting.

What's On The Easel

This is what I'm working on and it is from a photo my brother took of Lime Kiln Lighthouse on San Juan Island. I'm painting this later in acrylic on a huge canvas. This painting is my way of working out the color and composition. I did the under painting with pastels and alcohol wash.Stay Tuned for updates!
